Diary of a Tea Newbie 4

by Tamara on June 18, 2009

So the first few weeks of summer arrived in usual form as I became the taxi mom and poolside lifeguard. All the craziness caught me off guard and I got out of my daily tea-drinking ritual. Sleeping in later, seeing movies late at night, all those things that involve soda and Kool Aid.

My body was noticing it. I had to get back to my daily dose of tea.

But then came the trip to New Orleans with my friends. Ever been to New Orleans? I don’t think they have vegetables there. At least none that aren’t already fried. Six days of fried batter, heavy creams, beignets, alcohol, and all sorts of new foods. For the first time in my life I ate alligator, crawfish, fried chicken livers, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, and I didn’t want to ask about what was in the gumbo.

I loved the city, the food, the people, the history, and the music. But today when I woke up back at home, the first thing I did was make a large cup of green tea. As good as the New Orleans food was, my body is grateful for this drink. I can already feel it working. I promised my body today that I would get back to the calming and health conscious tea drinking ritual I was in before summer.

Now if I can just get the kids to sleep in till noon.
